I'm sorry to report that Doris Dewar Gutzwiller, daughter of Maude Mann Dewar, passed away on August 2nd in Raleigh, NC.  Here's her obituary as reported in The News & Observer —

Mrs. Doris Dewar Gutzwiller, 85, died peacefully Saturday morning, August 2, 2008 at Universal Healthcare.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Mrs. Gutzwiller resided at the corner of New Hope Road and Memory Lane for 52 years. She worked for the State for over 30 years, eding with her retirement from North Carolina State University. She continued to work until almost 80, ending her working career at Lowe's Warehouse as a cashier.

She was a kind person who offered food and shelter to anything that graced her door step; stray dog, cat, opossum and on occasion, stray person. She traveled the world but preferred to be at home with her pets, her dolls, and working in her flowers beds. She loved her family, her friends and everything Cokesbury, the little community where she grew up.

Doris is survived by her sons, Ronald F. Smith of Raleigh, Richard P. Smith and his wife, Penny Allen Smith of Wendell; her grandson who she dearly loved, Rodney P. Smith; sister, Eloise Snipes and her husband, Wiley; brother, Robert Dewar and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her best friend, loyal companion and devoted caretaker, John Chaney.

She was a good mother, a good friend and will be truly missed.
